Pebble, or also recalled to as joyak-dol in Korean, is a familiar object to people bringing nostalgia. People use to rest along with the pebbles next to them in the river, play ducks and drakes, or collect them as if they were precious jewels. Pebble shaped stool, ‘Dol’, gives people a place to rest, a place to bring reminiscence.
Redefining Korean Traditional Joinery
Korean traditional wood furniture is made with the technique of joinery, not using other adhesives or connecting bolts. By this technique, they are more sturdy as well as showing the aspect of aesthetic. This artisan-minded joinery technique is also similar to the contemporary method of digital fabrication. As technology is being developed, digital computation methods and machines show more preciseness of design, where as digital fabrication method is structured similarly to the past. The 'Dol’ project is to redefine Korean traditional fabrication method through the present day high-end digital computation and fabrication method.

한국의 전통 목가구는 별도의 접착제 혹은 결속 부속품 없이 목부재의 짜임과 이음만으로 제작을 한다. 이는 구조적으로 더욱 견고할 뿐만 아니라 미적인 요소에도 한 몫을 한다. 한국의 장인정신이 깃들여진 이 결구법은 현시대의 디지털 제작 방법(Digital Fabrication)과도 일맥상통한다. 과거에 비해 다양한 디지털 기술과 기계들을 이용하여 정교하면서도 정확한 디자인 및 재단이 가능해졌지만, 실제 물질적인 제작 부분에 있어서는 과거의 방식과 비슷한 부분이 많다. 이번 'Dol'은 현재의 디지털 방식(Digital Computation)을 이용해 과거 한국의 전통 제작(Fabrication)방식을 재조명하는 프로젝트이다.
